How Are We Growing? Let’s Count the Ways

Membership Surpasses 700,000 as of February

If you’ve walked the floors of any of our medical centers since the beginning of 2017, you might have noticed the lively, bustling atmosphere as the influx of new members seek out our high quality, personalized care. As of the end of February, we now have a total of 701,170 members. We’ve also experienced positive growth in all marketplaces and business lines since the start of the year.

So how are we caring for all of these new members? Since January, we have welcomed more than 300 new Health Plan employees and 40 new Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) physicians. We also have more than 900 open Health Plan positions posted internally and externally to continue growing our workforce. If we keep pace with last year’s growth, we can expect to recruit up to an additional 1,300 to 1,500 new Health Plan employees and 180 new MAPMG physicians by year end 2017.

In addition to new staff, we are looking at ways to expand our service offerings and physical footprint as we continue to grow.  Some examples of our expansion include:

  • We recently began offering Urgent Care at our Fredericksburg and Baltimore Harbor Medical Centers;
  • Our new medical office in Harford County, MD—Abingdon Medical Center—is slated to open next month;
  • We also announced a new medical office in North Arundel to open in June 2017, and Alexandria, VA to open in 2019; and
  • We have added another operating room in the South Baltimore Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) for a total of three ORs, and we have received a Certificate of Need to add a seventh OR in the Tysons Corner ASC.

It’s an exciting time in KPMAS. We’re experiencing unprecedented growth both in members and employees while continuing to provide the highest quality, integrated care. But we’re not done yet! Stay tuned in the coming months for more announcements about future offerings and expansions. Thank you to all of our valued employees and physicians who are working hard every day to make sure all of our members—new and established—have the best experience every time.
