Kaiser Permanente, the region’s largest integrated nonprofit health system, is set to open the doors of its new 99,000-square-foot Springfield Medical Center on Monday, November 14, 2022. This new medical center replaces the former Springfield site with a state-of-the-art facility to deliver national-leading quality care to more than 300,000 members in Northern Virginia.

“We’re thrilled to open this state-of-the-art, next-generation facility to serve our members in Northern Virginia,” said Ruth Williams-Brinkley, regional president, Kaiser Permanente. “This modern medical center combines Kaiser Permanente’s nation-leading quality care with design and technology that optimize convenience and experience for members. Springfield Medical Center is yet another example of our ongoing commitment to invest in the health of Northern Virginia and the entire region.”

The new Springfield Medical Center, which is located at 6551 Loisdale Court in Springfield, VA, is one of 35 Kaiser Permanente medical centers in the Mid-Atlantic region. Springfield is also the newest of six Kaiser Permanente medical centers in Northern Virginia and the last of six next-generation facilities to open in the Mid-Atlantic region between 2021 and 2022.

“We’re proud that at the new Springfield Medical Center our patients have access to award-winning primary care physicians and specialists who work together to prevent, diagnose, and treat illness, improving their patients’ long-term health and life expectancy. In fact, the research shows that when patients get their care from us, they live six years longer than national averages,” said Richard McCarthy, MD, executive medical director for Kaiser Permanente. “Our physicians focus on providing exceptional-quality care that is convenient and comprehensive for every patient. When members visit Springfield Medical Center, they can see their doctors, get lab services, X-rays, and a mammogram as well as pick up prescriptions — all in a single trip.”

The new Kaiser Permanente Springfield Medical Center will employ a full range of world-class physicians in a wide array of medical services, including primary care, specialty care like dermatology, orthopedics, and ophthalmology. The facility also includes several medical services such as physical therapy, pharmacy, laboratory, and imaging, including DEXA, mammography, ultrasound, and X-ray – all under one roof. The Springfield Medical Center will serve over 47,000 members in Fairfax County and is expected to have 144,000 visits per year.

Similar to Kaiser Permanente’s other new facilities that have opened in the region over the past 18 months, the new Springfield Medical Center will offer several convenient features and innovative technology for patients and the care team. For example, streamlined check-in services and enhanced member communications allow members to receive updates on appointment status. Exam rooms feature tables that measure weight and large screens in the rooms to allow for virtual appointments and education. Kaiser Permanente patients at Springfield and other locations can connect with their physicians and care teams through telephone, video appointments, and secure email messaging.

The new Springfield Medical Center will offer patients access to parking and is located near bus routes.

The award-winning care provided at the new Springfield Medical Center and the 35 other Kaiser Permanente facilities across Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia helps the more than 826,000 Kaiser Permanente members in the Mid-Atlantic live longer, healthier lives. The integrated care provided through Kaiser Permanente leads to earlier detection and better treatment of heart disease, stroke, and breast cancer, resulting in lives saved among its members each year. In fact, recent data shows that Kaiser Permanente members live six years longer than other patients.

Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic region is the only health plan in the nation to receive a 5 out of 5 rating for both its Medicare and commercial plans in the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2022-2023. In addition, 2022 marked the 11th year in a row that the health system’s Mid-Atlantic region received 5 out of 5 stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for its 2022 health plan. More than a dozen physicians at Springfield have been recognized as “Top Doctors” in the region by local publications, including Northern Virginia Magazine and Washingtonian.
