In 2023, Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States (KPMAS) invested $198 million in Community Health to improve the communities we serve.
We do that by focusing on access to care, addressing community conditions for health and equity, and advancing the future of community health through innovation. We also share our financial resources, research, nurses, physicians, and clinical practices and knowledge through our programs, grantmaking, and other investment efforts. Thriving Schools
In 2023, KPMAS made more than $200,000 in grants to address physical, mental, and social health needs in public schools. We engaged over 400 schools to use the Thriving Schools Integrated Assessment spanning 17 counties. We also had a 30 percent increase in America’s Healthiest Schools winners in the previous year.
Connecting members to resources
Kaiser Permanente’s Hub Community Resources helps make lives better by connecting people to critical community resources and addressing social needs. In 2023, the hub’s case managers and care coordinators made more than 4,000 referrals, increasing access to transportation, food, housing, and employment for KPMAS members.
Offering charitable care
Our Charitable Health Care and Coverage is unique across all healthcare insurance organizations by offering access to care and coverage to undocumented families. In 2023, we served more than 11,500 individuals and families in Maryland and Virginia who lacked access to health care and coverage.
Delivering access to care
Through seamless collaboration with the Kaiser Permanente Mobile Health Vehicle, we bring health resources and screenings directly to the communities we serve. In 2023, we impacted more than 3,200 individuals by providing a spectrum of clinical services, health education, food distribution, and mental health services to KPMAS members and non-members.
Supporting entrepreneurs of color
Business ownership is an important pathway to health and wealth, but women and people of color face disproportionate barriers. In 2023, we reached more than 1,000 people of color and women entrepreneurs across the Mid-Atlantic with procurement resources.
