On Saturday October 13, 2018 Kaiser Permanente hosted its 5th Annual Cancer Survivor Day.  Over twenty expert physicians and care team members held an array of educational workshops including a Breast Cancer Panel, Nutrition Planning and sessions on Lung, Prostate and Colon Cancer Surgery. Cancer support group sessions were offered throughout the day and wellness activities were also well-attended including Meditation, Yoga and Balance and Stability for Life.  An Interactive Health Expo offered a number of valuable ancillary services, including life care planning, online registration for kp.org, Thriving After 60 programs, Clinical Trials, Research Bank and Health Education classes.

Several activities were offered in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month including Nordstrom’s Breast Prosthesis Program (Mastectomy fittings where certified fitters are specially trained to fit women for all intimate apparel following a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other reconstructive breast surgery) and a Breast Health Exhibit including in an interactive breast-self exam demonstration on breast models to learn the importance of early-detection technique.

Nearly 800 patients, family members, and friends attended the event this year, and praised the event program.

“The event was wonderful. I attended about 2 years ago and had a different perspective,” said one attendee. “As a 4+ year Breast Cancer Survivor and I attended this year by myself as a Kaiser member it was great. The services and sessions I attended were very informative. The speakers had me think about how much stress I could have alleviated if we were Kaiser members. However, we are now and I appreciate my team of care providers.”
