Lose a Pound, Give a Pound

Together we can feel great and fight hunger with the Go KP Pound for Pound Challenge.

What if losing a pound or more of weight in the next two months meant a family in need would get fresh fruits and vegetables in return? Would you do it?

Last year, families in need received nearly 73,000 pounds of fresh produce because more than 14,000 KP employees stepped up to the Pound for Pound Challenge. In 2018, you will have another chance.

On January 15, join the Go KP Pound for Pound Challenge and get tools, resources, and support from your colleagues to help you lose — or maintain — your weight.  In doing so, you can also help provide fresh fruits and vegetables for people struggling to put meals on the table. For every pound KP employees lose collectively between January 15 and March 11, Kaiser Permanente will donate a pound of produce to Feeding America®, the national food bank network.

Don’t need to lose weight? No problem! Maintain your starting weight, log it on Go KP, and a donation of five pounds of produce will be made on your behalf. Lose weight and every pound you lose will be one pound more given to Feeding America!

Hunger exists in the communities we serve

As of 2016, 41.2 million Americans live in food-insecure households, including 28.3 million adults and 12.9 million children. Nearly a quarter of people who live in food insecure households earn too much to qualify for federal nutrition assistance programs.

With 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs, the Feeding America Network reaches people in need in every community across the country.

When we work together, we can make great things happen for ourselves and for others — one pound at a time with the Pound for Pound Challenge.

Joining is easy!

Beginning January 15, log in to Go KP and opt in for the Pound for Pound Challenge. When you join the Challenge, you will be asked to create a weight loss goal and enter your starting weight. Then, begin logging your weight through March 12. You will receive weekly emails with tips, strategies, and resources to help you reach a healthy weight.

One feature of the program is the Pounds to Produce Scale poster – a great way for you and your co-workers to chart your success together, and see how you are all contributing to a good cause! There are two ways to access a poster – 1) look for a community Pounds to Produce Scale poster in your workplace; or 2) download and print a personal poster from the Go KP website.

One pound is just the beginning

The Healthy Weight resources and other workforce wellness programs can help you continue to lose or maintain your weight throughout the challenge and beyond. In fact, you can prevent or lower your risk for developing other health issues, such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, by eating healthy, being more active, and losing weight.

Whether you are trying to lose weight, improve your body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure, and prevent or control risk for prediabetes and diabetes, Go KP can help you set new goals, track your achievements, and get support from your co-workers. After the challenge period ends, you can continue to log in to Go KP; new resources and activities are added on throughout the year, in addition to the annual physical activity team competition coming up in the spring.

  1. Hello,

I am trying to get my office to sign up for a health drive. I had hoped that the “Pound for a Pound” campaign applied to any Kaiser members (our office is insured through you), but it seems it is for Kaiser employees only. Can you let me know if there are any programs that your clients can sign up for to help promote healthy living?

    Thank you!
