Kaiser Permanente welcomed hundreds of community members to the National Harbor in Prince George’s Co
unty, Maryland, on Saturday, June 6, for the second annual Healthy at the Harbor, a free day of wellness and connection on the waterfront.
The family-friendly event offered no-cost health screenings, preventive care education and fitness activities including yoga, line dance and Zumba. Families enjoyed a kids’ zone with spin-art bikes, face painting and balloon art, a kids’ recess led by Baltimore Ravens safety Malaki Starks, and performances by Prince George’s County marching bands. Early registrants for select fitness classes received free giveaways including head and wristband sets, step counters and yoga mats.
Kaiser Permanente’s mobile health vehicle was on-site to provide screenings directly to attendees at the waterfront. On the vehicle, Kaiser Permanente nurses and physicians provided 140 blood pressure and BMI screenings and 70 diabetes and cholesterol screenings, connecting community members with preventive care and resources to support their total health. More than 110 Kaiser Permanente volunteers signed up to support the event.
Kaiser Permanente was joined by community partners who brought the health expo to life with hands-on demonstrations and services, including CPR demos, bone density scans, and no-cost dental screenings. Kaiser Permanente representatives were also on site to answer questions about health plans and connect attendees with care designed to support all their health needs.
