More than $60,000 in grants will support teacher, administrator, and staff health in 25 Prince George’s County Public Schools.
A core component of Kaiser Permanente’s mission is to improve the health and the well-being of the communities we serve. As part of that commitment, we know that schools are an especially important place to encourage children and the adults who care for them to embrace healthy life-long habits.
Through our Thriving Schools program, we work to create a culture of health on local campuses where teachers, students, staff and parents can benefit. Kaiser Permanente supports a range of initiatives, including wellness programs and changes to school-wide policies.
Last fall, we launched a new “minigrant” program in Prince George’s County Public Schools, with 25 grants of $2,500 awarded to projects that support the health and wellness of teachers and staff. That’s a total of more than $62,000 to provide fitness equipment, healthy eating and active lifestyle programs and other resources to local schoolsto make the healty choice easier for busy school staff.
We received 80 applications from more than 70 schools throughout Prince George’s County. The 25 projects that were selected will reach more than 1.900 teachers, administrators, and staff. These grants will increase access to healthy foods and beverages and provide ways for staff to incorporate physical activity into their day. Many of these grant-funded projects will also support behavioral health through stress management and relaxation tools..
