Today, Kaiser Permanente opens Well by Kaiser Permanente™ at Friendship Heights, a modern 5,000 square-foot boutique neighborhood medical center offering personalized service and best-in-class, nationally-recognized care that results in better health outcomes for patients. This new, convenient center, which marks the Kaiser Permanente’s 35th facility in the Mid-Atlantic region, is located at the Shops at Wisconsin Place, just steps from the Metro’s Red Line.

Offering adult primary care, Well by Kaiser Permanente’s intimate care environment allows patients to comfortably connect with their care team to improve long-term health and well-being. As part of the Kaiser Permanente integrated health care system, patients at Well also have access to a comprehensive network of 1,700 physicians offering a full range of the health system’s coordinated specialty health services.

“At Kaiser Permanente, we strive to offer our members convenient options for their care that are patient-centered and leverage our nationally recognized approach to quality,” said Ruth Williams-Brinkley, regional president, Kaiser Permanente. “Well by Kaiser Permanente brings a new, unique care option closer to our members in DC and Maryland, combining our excellent care in a smaller space featuring modern design and an inviting atmosphere. Members who choose Well for their care will still be able to benefit from our uniquely integrated model of care that leads to better overall health outcomes so our members can thrive.”

Well is expected to serve 5,000 Kaiser Permanente members over the next five years, and is part of the health care system’s strategy to increase personalized service and help patients feel even more connected to their care team. The Well pilot may result in expansion of this new care model to other locations in the future.

Members receiving care at Well will enjoy:

  • Easy access to medical experts – Kaiser Permanente’s online portal and app offers video visits, online appointment scheduling, secure messaging with your doctors, prescription refills and access to test results from almost anywhere.
  • Truly integrated care – With an electronic medical record that all your doctors can access at any time, your specialists and primary care physician can stay up to date and connected to your lab results, appointment notes and more.
  • Personalized care – Well’s space and scheduling make it easy to ask all your questions and build a relationship with your primary care physician.
  • Whole health primary care – Your doctor will guide you on your journey to Total Health, including everything from weight management to reducing stress to scheduling preventive screenings.

“Well’s board-certified Permanente physicians are dedicated to understanding each patient’s health goals and tailoring a unique plan to achieve them based on their health history and needs,” said Richard McCarthy, MD, executive medical director at Kaiser Permanente. “We are thrilled to expand our award-winning medical care to a convenient new location for Kaiser Permanente members who live or work near Friendship Heights and look forward to helping each Well patient experience the superior outcomes our Permanente physicians provide.”

Well offers members the feel of a small primary care practice with familiar faces at each visit and is also part of the Kaiser Permanente network of 35 medical centers and the region’s largest multi-specialty physician group with more than 1,700 doctors. Whether Well patients want personalized in-person or virtual care, they have access to the full range of convenient, quality care options that are part of Kaiser Permanente.

From treating common illnesses to complex diseases – the physicians at Well will provide patients with award-winning, quality care. In September, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) rated Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States as the only private (commercial) and Medicare health plans available in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia to earn a 5-star rating according to the NCQA’s Health Plan Ratings for 2021. And, earlier in October, Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare Advantage (HMO) plans were recognized as the only plans to achieve a 5-star rating – the highest possible – in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia for the tenth year in a row. The top ratings demonstrate Kaiser Permanente’s exceptional approach to providing expert medicine, seamless quality care, and outstanding service to its members.

In addition to national quality ratings, evidence shows that Kaiser Permanente’s members live longer, healthier lives thanks to an integrated delivery system, regular disease screenings, cutting-edge treatment plans and successful management of chronic conditions. Whether members need a mammogram or blood pressure checks, these are integrated into care across the health system, making access convenient for members. For example, any visit at Kaiser Permanente is a blood pressure check – whether it is an eye exam or a dermatology visit – which is one important step that results in better management of high blood pressure among Kaiser Permanente members compared to national averages.
