Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States has the highest rated Medicare plan in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia based on the NCQA ratings. The organization’s commercial health plan is rated the highest in Virginia and the District of Columbia and is the only plan to receive a 4.5 rating in Maryland – making it the highest rated commercial health plan available to non-military families.

The ratings were published by NCQA in the Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2017-2018 report. NCQA is recognized as the national leader in health care performance measurement and rates more than 1,000 health plans nationally each year, including Medicare, Medicaid and Private (commercial). NCQA’s annual report rates plans on a 0-to-5 scale, with 5 being the best.

“This recognition is a tribute to the superior medical care that our physicians provide Kaiser Permanente members,” said Bernadette Loftus, MD, associate executive director, The Permanente Medical Group, which cares for Kaiser Permanente members. “Our physicians deliver exceptional clinical care and personalized service, and our high NCQA ratings are a testament to their expertise and passion.”

The NCQA Health Insurance Plan Ratings are based on combined scores for health plans in the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set®, commonly called HEDIS; the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems®, or CAHPS; and NCQA Accreditation standards.

“The Kaiser Permanente integrated model enables our members to access excellent medical care whenever and wherever they need it,” said Kim Horn, president of Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States. “These high ratings reflect our commitment to provide the level of affordable, high-quality health care coverage that our members expect and deserve, and I would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff at each of our many locations for their hard work to make this possible.”

NCQA’s website (www.ncqa.org) contains information to help consumers, employers and others make more informed health care choices. The measurement tools used by NCQA are among the most comprehensive, comparable across plans and widely respected in the nation, and cover a wide range of clinical and service measures, including women’s reproductive health, immunizations and cancer screenings, as well as clinical treatment measures for the management of chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes and heart disease.

The ratings and methodology are available on the NCQA website as well as on WebMD.com.
