Kaiser Permanente proudly commemorated Juneteenth, a significant federal holiday recognizing the emancipation of the last enslaved Black individuals on June 19, 1865. Kaiser Permanente partnered with community organizations to celebrate this important recognition and to highlight ongoing efforts to achieve equity for all.

Annapolis Juneteenth Gala, Festival, and Parade

Kaiser Permanente is proud to have supported the Annapolis Juneteenth Gala, Festival, and Parade on June 21-22, an event that drew thousands of attendees to celebrate African American heritage. As a sponsor, Kaiser Permanente hosted a booth offering giveaways, healthy recipe literature, and diabetes information.

Kaiser Permanente assistant physician in chief for quality, Ada Emarievbe, MD, discussed the importance of cancer screenings and shared essential health tips for living longer, healthier lives with attendees:

  • “Number one, advocate for yourself,” said Dr. Emarievbe. “Find advocates in the health care community that will help advocate for you.”
  • “Number two, behavioral modifications – so looking at ways to improve your health every day,” she said.
  • “Balanced diet, number three – try to eat healthy as much as you can,” she said.

She also encouraged attendees to prioritize their mental health, stay connected to family and friends, and seek out help anytime they need it.

Kaiser Permanente is grateful to The Annapolis Juneteenth, Inc. for leading and organizing this important event and offering the opportunity to promote health awareness and equity for all.

Prince William County Juneteenth Festival

Kaiser Permanente also participated in the Prince William County Juneteenth Festival on June 15 at the Locust Shade Park Amphitheater, which attracted numerous community members. Kaiser Permanente supported this event with a vendor table offering giveaways and our interactive spin art bikes. Kaiser Permanente is honored to join Prince William County for this important celebration to foster community engagement and wellness in the spirit of Juneteenth!

Kaiser Permanente’s involvement in these events reflects its broader mission to improve the health of the communities we serve and advance health equity for all. Thank you to all of our community members, employees, and volunteers who supported Juneteenth events!
