Kaiser Permanente today announced that it has acquired land to build a new medical center in Hyattsville, Maryland. The new, freestanding outpatient medical center, scheduled to open in August 2022, will replace the health system’s existing medical center two miles away at 6525 Belcrest Road. The new medical center will be 37% larger than the existing facility to accommodate a steady growth of membership in the Hyattsville area.
“We are thrilled to work closely with Gilbane Development Company, the City of Hyattsville and Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation to bring this vision into focus,” said Ruth Williams-Brinkley, president of Kaiser Permanente. “The Riverfront at West Hyattsville development is an ideal location for a new medical center where the community can access Kaiser Permanente’s innovations in delivering integrated, high-quality care.”
The Kaiser Permanente Prince George’s Medical Center, which will be located at 5620 Ager Road in Hyattsville, will be a 48,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility featuring 37 patient exam rooms, lab testing facilities, and a three-level parking garage. The facility will house adult and family medicine, OB-GYN, pediatric, and imaging services along with a pharmacy. The building will be directly adjacent to the WMATA Metro West Hyattsville station.
“We are proud to partner with Kaiser Permanente to build this new facility and further expand their presence in the County,” said Prince George’s county executive Angela Alsobrooks. “As we work to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, this facility will create needed jobs while expanding access to quality healthcare for Prince Georgians.”
The new Kaiser Permanente facility is forecasted to serve approximately 27,000 Kaiser Permanente members annually.
“Gilbane Development Company’s investment in the Hyattsville community is amplified by Kaiser Permanente’s selection of The Riverfront at West Hyattsville for this innovative new medical center,” noted Robert V. Gilbane, Jr., vice president for Gilbane Development Company. “By bringing together top-quality healthcare, residential, retail, public spaces directly adjacent to metro, the Riverfront at West Hyattsville community is transforming a formerly bleak industrial site into a vibrant new transit-oriented development.”
