We are excited to announce two new building projects coming to the Northern Virginia service area (NOVA). We have received approval to replace the Springfield Medical Office Building (MOB) and to expand and renovate our existing Ashburn MOB. These two projects will enable us to better service our growing membership in NOVA.
KPMAS has purchased land adjacent to our existing Springfield MOB. With this purchase added to our current site, we have a total parcel of four acres which will enable us to build a new 108,000 square-foot MOB opening in 2021. While plans are still being finalized, the medical center will provide primary care, multiple specialties, pharmacy, laboratory and imaging services in one convenient location.
In 2020, we plan to complete the Ashburn MOB expansion and renovation to help relieve the current capacity constraints and enable further growth. The work will be done in two phases. Phase 1 includes building out space on vacant floors to provide an additional 19,000 square feet of clinical space that will be ready for patient care beginning in early 2020. Phase 2 will focus on the renovation of 26,000 square feet of first floor space that will be open to our members in Q4 2020.
We are thrilled to add these Springfield and Ashburn announcements to the list of other recently announced new medical facilities: Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Stafford, Haymarket, and Prince William County) and DCSM (Bowie) and Baltimore (Timonium).
These investments are possible due to the world-class health care you deliver daily to our members and our communities. We will continue to invest so even more people can benefit from the level of care that only you deliver. Thank you for all that you do, and we are excited about what’s to come in 2019 and beyond.
