Last week, Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States announced a new phase of partnership with Bon Secours Baltimore Health System to advance economic opportunity and health in West Baltimore.
Kaiser Permanente’s initial total investment of more than $1.8 million cements a long-term partnership between Kaiser Permanente, Bon Secours and several communities in zip code 21223. This project will bring much needed investment to neighborhoods that have the worst health outcomes not just in Baltimore City but in the entire state of Maryland. We are proud to make this commitment, and to formalize our partnership with Bon Secours. We know that we will achieve far more together than we ever could alone.
The cornerstone of this project will be the construction of a Community Resource Center, which will replace a long-abandoned library in the heart of the community. This center will offer a variety of services for youth and adults, including mental health services, arts-based learning, and career training.
The project is the first of its kind in West Baltimore and will serve as a model for community health and development projects across the region and the country and for “anchor institutions” as agents of community revitalization.
