The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is committed to finding and hiring the best doctors to provide the highest quality coordinated care for our members. Dr. Adam Isaac, DPM, a Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group podiatrist, is a great example of how our doctors are impacting lives and revolutionizing care. Dr. Isaac was recently honored with the Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Global Open Best Paper Award (Best Case Report – Bronze) as a co-author of the paper, “Mechanically Powered Negative Pressure Wound Therapy as a Bolster for Skin Grafting.” Dr. Isaac and co-authors, Dr. Jessica F. Rose, DO, and Dr. David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD, were recognized for the award at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, October 16-20, in Boston, MA.

“The award is a great honor, and none of it would be possible without my co-authors [David Armstrong and Jessica Rose],” said Dr. Isaac. “To be recognized by the International Open Access Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons for work related to diabetic limb salvage is truly special.”

The award-winning paper explains how using negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) as a bolster for skin grafts helps produce a higher number of healed wounds compared to standard moist wound therapy. The case report discussed in the paper details the treatment of a diabetic patient who had a large, painful wound on her left ankle. By using NPWT to bolster the skin graft, her wound was closed 12 weeks after treatment.

Dr. Isaac oversees the complex foot wound clinic, which provides focused care to members at the highest risk for foot ulceration, infection, amputation, and loss of limb. “The establishment of a dedicated high-risk diabetic foot clinic (Complex Foot Wound Clinic) within our model is unprecedented, and represents yet another example of how the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is leading the way in our region!” shared Dr. Isaac.

The clinic’s ultimate goal is to reduce the number of major amputations in the Mid-Atlantic region and improve the daily lives of our members. The clinic is available at Largo Medical Center on Tuesdays and Kensington Medical Center on Thursdays. The clinic provides:

  • Advanced wound care, such as NPWT, bioengineered alternative tissues and complex dressing changes.
  • Comprehensive strategies for offloading, including total contact casting and surgical reconstruction.
  • An interdisciplinary team approach to limb salvage and amputation prevention.

Dr. Isaac received his medical education from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and is an Associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Visit Dr. Isaac’s home page here.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Isaac on his award and dedication to our members’ health!
