HYATTSVILLE, MD. – Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare Advantage health plan in the Mid-Atlantic States (Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.) earned 4.5 out of 5 stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) 2027 Star Ratings.

The Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States Medicare health plan is tied for the second highest rated health plan in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. For the third year in a row, all Kaiser Permanente Medicare health plans are rated 4 stars or higher (2025- 2027).

Kaiser Permanente’s high rating reflects the expert medical care, seamless patient experience and exceptional service that Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic health care professionals provide to Medicare health plan members.

What CMS ratings measure

Every year, CMS publishes Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D) ratings. Each year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. The ratings provide consumers with a way to compare the quality of Medicare plans.

CMS evaluates several key areas to determine Star Ratings:

  • How well health plans help members stay healthy
  • How well health plans manage ongoing health conditions
  • Member experiences
  • Customer service
  • Access to care
  • Pharmacy services

“Kaiser Permanente’s 2027 Medicare Star 4.5 Star Rating results reflect our continued commitment to excellence and exceptional quality of care”, said Emily Holliman, regional president, Kaiser Permanente, Mid-Atlantic States. “We are honored that CMS continues to recognize the work of our physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and staff, who help ensure our Medicare health plan members receive high-quality care that helps them to live longer, healthier lives.”

Kaiser Permanente provides care to more than 115,000 Medicare health plan members in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

“A high CMS Star Rating signals that we at Kaiser Permanente are fulfilling our mission and our promise to provide exceptional healthcare to the patients we serve,” said Ameya Kulkarni, MD, executive medical director, Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States. “This high CMS Star Rating is the result of thousands of decisions made every day by our care teams at Kaiser Permanente to put patients first.”
