Kaiser Permanente to Open Convenient, Neighborhood Medical Center in Friendship Heights

Kaiser Permanente has announced plans to open Well by Kaiser Permanente™ at Friendship Heights, a modern, unique 5,000 square-foot medical center, this October. Well Friendship Heights will offer convenient, personalized adult primary care and will be located at The Shops at Wisconsin Place, at the intersection of Wisconsin Ave NW and Western Ave NW.

The new, boutique neighborhood medical center is part of Kaiser Permanente’s strategy to increase personalized service and help patients feel even more connected to their care team. With more than 780,000 members in the mid-Atlantic, the new Friendship Heights center offers another convenient location for members who live or work in DC and Suburban Maryland.

The design aesthetic of Well Friendship Heights will be unique to Kaiser Permanente’s portfolio of patient centers. It will feature contemporary and comforting design features that are comfortable for patients, improve efficiencies in work and foster interactions between patients, doctors, and other clinical staff. The smaller space also helps patients feel more connected to the care team. The Friendship Heights medical center will have four internal medicine and primary care physicians when it opens in October.

“Well by Kaiser Permanente will not be your typical doctor’s office,” said Ruth Williams-Brinkley, Regional President, Kaiser Permanente. “The space is being carefully designed to feel more inviting and less clinical than the traditional doctor’s office and help our members feel at ease when they walk in our doors. This modern, welcoming experience reflects the high level of care and compassion we deliver at Kaiser Permanente.”

The Well pilot may result in expansion of this new care model to other locations in the future. With more than 1,700 physicians, Kaiser Permanente has the largest multi-specialty medical groups in the region. Kaiser Permanente members in the mid-Atlantic have many choices to access care, including via video, phone, secure messaging or in-person at any of Kaiser Permanente’s 34 medical offices in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

“We are delighted to make our award-winning care more easily accessible for the patients we serve in Washington, D.C.,” said Dr. Richard McCarthy, executive medical director at Kaiser Permanente.  “Patients who visit our new Friendship Heights location will enjoy the unsurpassed convenience and high-quality medical care from top-notch physicians in a new, modern facility.”
