In partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), Kaiser Permanente began administering the COVID-19 vaccine to PGCPS employees yesterday, February 3, at the health system’s Lanham Rehabilitation Center. Protecting teachers and staff with the vaccination is part of the school district’s plan for students to return to in-person learning.

“Schools play an important role in ensuring the well-being of the communities we serve, and Kaiser Permanente is committed to supporting the health and wellness of students, teachers and school staff,” said Dr. Mona Gahunia, an infectious diseases physician, and associate medical director, leading Kaiser Permanente’s vaccine efforts in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. “We are honored to expand on our longstanding relationship with PGCPS by helping our patients and communities move past this pandemic by vaccinating this essential workforce.”

Through this program, Kaiser Permanente will administer 1,500 COVID-19 vaccinations to PGCPS employees within the first week and will continue vaccinating employees for the next several weeks. The Maryland Department of Health is supplying the vaccine as part of Phase 1B of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination allocation plan, which includes teachers and support staff. Kaiser Permanente is receiving a separate vaccine allotment for the vaccinations with the PGCPS staff. The allocation does not impact the vaccine allocation for Kaiser Permanente’s members and staff in the state.

“With the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine, Prince George’s County Public Schools is working to protect our employees’ health, safety and well-being,” said Chief Executive Officer Dr. Monica Goldson. “I am grateful for our partnership with Kaiser Permanente, a long-standing health leader within our community. Our collaboration is another step toward shielding our community from this virus as we continue navigating these unprecedented times. I encourage my PGCPS colleagues to take advantage of this special opportunity over the coming weeks.”

School employees can schedule their vaccination appointments with Kaiser Permanente through a secure online scheduling portal. Second vaccination appointments will be scheduled at the Lanham Rehabilitation Center after the staff receive their first shot.
