Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic Region Leads in Clinical Care Quality, According to 2025 HEDIS Report

0

Hyattsville, Md. — Kaiser Permanente continues to lead the health care industry in providing exceptional clinical care and outcomes, as demonstrated by the 2025 Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, commonly called HEDIS®.*

The 2025 report for commercial health insurance plans confirms that care delivered by physicians of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group consistently outperformed all other health plans in the region across multiple access/availability and effectiveness-of-care measures, including blood pressure control for patients with diabetes, breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, prenatal and postpartum care timeliness, and HPV vaccination. With about 1,800 physicians across approximately 65 medical and surgical specialties, the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group’s award-winning physicians care exclusively for members of Kaiser Permanente Health Plan.

In every one of the patient care categories, Kaiser Permanente members received better care than those enrolled in any other plan serving the Mid-Atlantic region. These results reflect Kaiser Permanente’s strong commitment to delivering timely, coordinated, and evidence-based care to more than 760,000 members in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

What is HEDIS?

HEDIS is a report card from the National Committee for Quality Assurance that evaluates and rates care provided by American health systems. The kinds of care measured include preventive and specialty care, as well as management of chronic diseases.

The HEDIS report puts a spotlight on different health plans’ abilities to provide timely services, including screenings, vaccinations, follow-up care, medication adherence, and mental health services. The report also looks at how well health plans manage risk factors such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Ultimately, the report is meant to help patients choose from among the best health providers in their regions and to encourage care improvements.

Exceptional Results for Kaiser Permanente Patients in the Mid-Atlantic

The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group outperformed all commercial health plans in the region in 2025 HEDIS measures for:

  • Blood pressure control (patients with diabetes): 84.2% vs. national average of 67.4%
  • Blood pressure control: (overall): 81.8% vs. national average of 64.3%
  • Breast cancer screening: 0% vs. national average of 75.0%
  • Cervical cancer screening: 8% vs. national average of 73.1%
  • Prenatal and Postpartum Care – Timeliness of Prenatal Care: 100% vs. national average of 79.7%
  • HPV vaccination: 7% vs. national average of 34.4%

These results demonstrate that Kaiser Permanente members in the Mid-Atlantic are receiving more preventive services, better chronic disease care, and more effective population health management than members of any other commercial plan in the region, helping them lead longer, healthier lives.
