Show your volunteer spirit and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during MLK Day of Service — A Day ON, Not a Day Off — on Monday, January 15, 2018.
Kaiser Permanente has observed this annual community day of service for the past 14 years through multiple volunteer projects, ranging from beautification efforts at schools and parks to helping out at local homeless shelters and food banks.
All you need to do is go to KPCares.org and sign up for a project near your work or home. There are five volunteer sites across the region to chose from, all supporting our neighbors most in need this winter. Projects include sorting winter clothes donations, home construction, and more.
These volunteer opportunities are open to Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians. Please check with your supervisor on whether you need to take a PTO or vacation day in order to participate in MLK Day of Service. Deadline to register for a project in KP Cares is January 12th.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Do I have to take a PTO day to volunteer?
Please check with your supervisor on whether you will need to take a supervisor-approved PTO/vacation day if you wish to volunteer on January 15.
- Help! I’m having trouble with KPCares.org.
Access to KPCares.org uses Web Single Sign-On (WSSO), as does MyHR and KP Learn. Do you have access to MyHR or KP Learn? If not, speak to your manager.
Troubleshooting:
- Check to see if your access to MyHR is working. This rules out a WSSO problem. If there is a WSSO problem, contact the KP-IT Service Desk at 1-844-563-HELP (4357).
- Clear your browsing history and cookies. Then try again.
- Still getting an error message? Take a snapshot* of the error message and send it along with your name and NUID to support@profits4purpose.com.
For general questions about the project, please contact the project leader listed on the project of your interest.
- Do I need carpentry or gardening skills to volunteer?
No experience is necessary, but it is helpful. If you are skilled in carpentry, electrical, or plumbing, please let your Area/Regional volunteer coordinators know. Also, if you would like to be a team lead, let a coordinator know.
- Do I need to bring anything?
No, however, tools are sometimes needed, so if you are able to bring tools, please let your volunteer coordinator know.
- Do I have to work the whole day or can I just work for a few hours?
We encourage all volunteers to work for a full day (8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to ensure that we finish our committed projects. Please see the designated hours for each project on KP Cares. If you do work a half day, please reflect that in your activity section on KP Cares.
Will you provide clothing?
Special KP MLK T-shirts will be provided (while supplies last). Wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Clothing may get soiled!
- Will food be provided?
Snacks, water, and lunch will be provided.
- Can I bring my family, friends, and/or children?
Most projects will allow family and friends; however, it is important to check the project description on KPCares.org or ask the project leader. Children are also allowed on some projects but age restrictions will vary. Children under 18 years old must have a signed parental consent form to participate (please request one from your project leader).
- I have a physical ailment, is there something I can do sitting down?
Please check with your volunteer coordinator to see what other duties there may be.
