Health care is undergoing a technological evolution, and Kaiser Permanente has long been at the forefront of using technology to innovate and improve the health care industry. Our organization uses technology like video visits to bridge the distance between a member and physician – saving members from the undue hardships related to long-distance travel and time off work. Technology can also provide instant assistance when every second counts – from programs that help stroke patients, to a nurse remotely assisting a mother with breastfeeding, to urgent situations that require an immediate consultation with an emergency physician.

Recently, Wired magazine spoke with Dr. Dennis Truong, Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) Director of Telemedicine and Mobility and Assistant Physician in Chief for Northern Virginia. The article correctly notes that Kaiser Permanente “leads the pack” in using telehealth in private health care. In the article, Dr. Truong notes that personal technology, like smart phones, tablets and computers, can simplify routine medical concerns and improve healthy living.
