Matthew Niemeyer, MD, who specializes in interventional radiology at Kaiser Permanente’s Tysons Corner Medical Center and Largo Medical Center, recently penned a feature in Northern Virginia Magazine about his experience performing microwave ablation – an innovative procedure that literally burns tumors most commonly used to treat patients at specific stages of liver cancer.

“Microwave ablation is innovative radiology in action,” writes Dr. Niemeyer. “If patients with cancer in their liver or another organ want treatment, we often recommend this procedure because it’s the best option for patients’ safety, comfort and results.”

This procedure can be used to avoid invasive surgery, reduce recovery time and minimize complications for some cancer patients. This is one example of physicians at Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States providing innovative, high-quality and affordable care.
